The Calm Between the Storms

Yesterday was our last day of caring for the kids down the street. Our little motivation to encourage the children to go to school only worked for a day for most of them. Yesterday, we found out that only the oldest one actually ended up going to school. One was sick and another lied about feeling sick.

When one of the little boys, Tomi, came over to play, Mrs. Donell gave him "the talk" about lying and not going to school. She sent him and me out to the "Quincho" to do school work. Although I made it fun, I made him WORK. We did math, reading, writing, geography (Argentina, of course), and science. It's an interesting challenge teaching in another language, but I think we both had a good time in the end.

Once again today, only the oldest girl went to school. It is very heartbreaking because we want to help them, yet we cannot always be a crutch for them. The surprisingly healthy mother and baby came home today, which meant that we would stop caring for the children. Although it felt great to have a break, we feel kind of "empty hearted". As Mrs. Donell has reminded me, ONLY the Gospel can give these children hope and bring them out of their hard situation.

We spent today getting ready for our marriage conference starting tomorrow. We haven't really had a chance to finish the last minute details because we have had the kids. The list of couples continues to grow, which is very exciting. Please pray that that the Scripture would clearly be preached, and that the Lord would work in these couple's hearts.

Much love to all,
kristen
